Who better to chat about your love life with than your ex, right?
During a Jimmy Kimmel Live! appearance on Thursday, Sarah Silverman got into the topic of her current relationship with Michael Sheen with her ex, host Jimmy Kimmel.
“He’s my on-again, off-again lover,” said Silverman, 46.
“I didn’t know about the off-again?” asked Kimmel, 49.
“No, he’s on-again — I call him my on-again, off-again lover because we’re apart by oceans — one ocean,” she clarified.
Silverman then explained that Sheen, 48, moved from Los Angeles to the U.K. around the time his daughter Lily was accepted to college.
“His daughter turned 18, he wanted to go home,” Silverman told Kimmel, whom she dated twice between 2002 and 2009. “He was here to be near his daughter, now she’s off, she’s going to start her own life. She’s going to [New York University].”
The comedian addressed Sheen’s calling to be “politically” active, noting that “he needs to be home to do that.”
“So he’s there a lot, and then we just long for each other and we see each other and we love each other,” she added.
The long distance relationship seems to work out fine for Silverman, though: “You know me, I’m a loner, so it’s okay,” she said with a laugh.
Silverman and Kimmel got together in 2002, but called it quits in 2008. They soon got back to together briefly before breaking up again in 2009. Silverman went on to date Alec Sulkin before linking up with Sheen. Meanwhile, Kimmel married Molly McNearny.
And these days, no two exes know how to joke about their relationship better than Silverman and Kimmel.
“I’m so glad everything worked out [with you]: two kids — four kids! — two since us, so I guess it really is over,” Silverman quipped at one point in the interview.
“I figured that was the best way to tell you,” Kimmel responded.
Later on, Kimmel wanted to show the audience a photo of something Silverman had drawn while hospitalized for a near-death case of epiglottitis, but Silverman insisted she wanted to introduce it herself with the backstory.
“Wait! Wait for it!” she shouted.
“We always had this problem,” Kimmel joked in response.
“We had sex, me and him,” Silverman mouthed to the audience. “When he was fatter.”In 2010, Silverman opened up about her split from Kimmel, saying that she still believes in love.
“I’d like to find that person,” she told Playboy. “I think Jimmy and I had every intention of spending the rest of our lives with each other. I love love. It’s my top priority. Jimmy will tell you. I’m a good girl.”
